Quick update
First of all I need to give you all a quick update on what's going on right now. I'm living in Melbourne, Australia, and I'm here on a Work Holiday Visa. When I went here I thought it would be really easy to get a job and I was certain that I would get a good one that I enjoyed. Oh boy, I was wrong.
14 resumes in shops, and 20 resumes in restaurants later, I got a call from an Italian restaurant. And a couple days after a call from a second Italian restaurant, Cafe Corette, where I now work.
I don't know if I'd call it work though, I'm more like a slave. Working for 12dollars an hour, they take most of your tip, they yell at you, they don't pay you anything after 11:30pm, even though it takes till 12 to clean!
- I can't pay for 15 minutes.
- Of course!
- What, am I gonna start paying per minutes, or what?
Stupid shit! OF COURSE he should! Why should we stay a minute after 11:30 cleaning that stupid restaurant if he doesn't pay us for it?
- If I say 30 minutes and you don't clean in 30 minutes that means you're slow, and I'm not gonna pay for that.
- But it's impossible to clean quicker than that! It takes 45 minutes to an hour!
- Yeah then you're slow.
It's all just funny business going on there.
I like my life here, the weather is nice, I have some nice people that I like, and I live in the middle of the city! You can have a fantastic life here. But I don't have time. I work 6pm- 11:30/12/1am from Tuesday to Sunday. When people are off work I'm going to work, I can barely see my cousin who lives here. I can't go out. Of course I can catch up with the others at the club, but I miss the pre-parties, the BBQs and I can never catch up in the amount of alcohol :P
New Years Eve in Melbuorne.
Anyways! Today I told them I'm quitting!
- Carlo, I wanna quit.
- What?
- I don't wanna work here anymore.
- Why?
- I don't like it here, I wanna do something else.
- Just like that?
- Yes, I wanna do something else.
He wasn't happy about it, but why does he think everyone's quitting?! In the two weeks I've worked there 6 people have quit. Try and treat your employees a little better and they might stay.
It's not only about the employees, it's the way they treat their customers as well. Today we had this guy who asked for the bill. Elisa, another girl gave him the bill and took the money back to Angelo (How can such a mean guy have the name Angelo?) . Elisa was 95 per cent sure that he gave her a 50dollar note, and his bill was on 25dollars. Elisa was waiting and waiting, and so was the customer. Then he asked her where his change was.
Elisa went back to Angelo and asked him where the change was, but Angelo told him he paid the exact amount, 25 dollars. The customer says once again that he gave her a 50dollar note, and Angelo and Carlo even go and have a look at the camera to see what he gave them. But I doubt that they could see how many notes he gave them, the distance was way to far!
After a while the costumer comes in and says again that it was a 50dollar note, Angelo brings him to the camera and they go through it again. After that I didn't listen more, and I'm not sure what happened. But apparently they didn't give him his money back! They were so certain they were right, that they didn't give him his money back!
That's just fucked up. The costumer's always right! And if Elisa thought she saw a 50dollar note as well...
OH MY GOD!
That's just one of the weird thing that happens there!
Time to go to bed! Tomorrow I'm gonna look for another job!
Just noticed this wasn't really a quick update haha, and this was the short version of everything!
Cheers!
